Nova Cantica
Traditional Catholic Sacred Music Conference
July 31 - August 2, 2026
“And they sung a new canticle, saying: Thou art worthy, O Lord, to take the book and to open the seals thereof, because thou wast slain and hast redeemed us to God, in thy blood, out of every tribe and tongue and people and nations.” (Apocalypse, 5:9)
St. Hildegard of Bingen
“It is reported that, exalted, you see many things in the heavens and record them in your writing, and that you bring forth the melody of a new song…But this does not surprise us at all, because it does not exceed your purity and saintliness, without which no one can attain to such things.” (Letter by Odo of Soissons to Hildegard of Bingen, 1148, from The Letters of Hildegard of Bingen, trans. Baird and Ehrman)
Theme: Our Lady, Co-Redemptrix, and Mediatrix of All Graces
Mission Statement
Our mission is to bring together traditional Catholic musicians, choir members, and choir directors yearly to expand their knowledge of chant, polyphony, organ repertoire, and other genres of sacred and liturgical music through professional presentations of research, round tables, workshops, and the demonstration of skills pertaining to the performance and study of the church’s liturgical musical heritage.
Pillars of Nova Cantica
The organizers of the Nova Cantica Conference wish to structure the workshops, presentations, and discussions on three main topics:
Chant
Men and women will rehearse in guided chant rehearsals. Schola directors will be able to refine their skills, while singers will refine their skills in reading and singing chant notation.
Polyphony
Presentations on polyphony will cover many topics, ranging from the Church's guidelines on sacred music to methods for achieving good blend in parish choirs.
Research & Practice
At the Nova Cantica conferences, we present topics that are based in research, and we provide time for hands-on practice in the form of workshops and rehearsals.
